Instructions
"The Bowl Method"
In a large bowl, stir together the rolled oats, milk, mashed strawberries, honey and vanilla extract. Cover the bowl and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, spoon oatmeal into bowls and garnish with fresh strawberries if desired.
"The Jar Method"
You will need 4 glass jars with lids that hold roughly 1-2 cups of liquid each.
To each jar add 1/2 cup of rolled oats, 1/3 cup of milk, 1/4 cup of mashed strawberries, 1/2-1 tbsp of honey (see notes) and 1 tsp vanilla extract.
Stir together the ingredients in each jar really well and then top with fresh diced strawberries if desired. Refrigerate the jars overnight. In the morning, grab a jar for an easy on-the-go breakfast. Enjoy!
Notes
*You are free to use any dairy or plant based milk in this recipe (with the exception of canned coconut milk), however, for the creamiest results, I recommend using whole milk. I have used fat-free milk before and the oatmeal is still delicious, it just doesn't have that "strawberries and cream" flavor that you might be looking for. So just keep that in mind :)**If using fresh strawberries, be sure to hull before mashing with a fork or potato masher. If using frozen strawberries, thaw in the microwave 1-2 minutes before mashing.***You can adjust the amount of honey used depending on your sweetness preference. If you like a sweeter oatmeal, use the full 4 tbsp. But if you like just a very light sweetness, only use 2 tbsp. If you're using the "jar method", you can do 1/2 tbsp honey per jar for a light sweetness, or you can use a full tablespoon per jar for a sweeter oatmeal.
